Typing up a resume can be stressful at times. You don't always know what to put in them. Should you write about your time working at computer repair shop if you're applying for a hydro excavation job? How long should your cover letter be? Just how much should you gush about your skills and experience working at the London Ontario vet clinic? You never know when too much information is too much or when it's not enough. Every employer is different and they are each looking for different things. No two companies are alike. A resume can be a crapshoot. You just have to type it up and hope for the best.

One thing that pretty much all companies are looking for when looking at resumes of potential new employees is references. It's almost a certainty that potential employers will ask you for a list of references. They want to be able to contact your previous catering services Toronto or Virginia Beach employer to get a sense of the type of person and worker you are. Having a list of references who can vouch for you is pretty standard. While you don't have to submit them with your reference right away, it doesn't hurt and is in your best interests to do so.

Some people will have a section of their resume that says references available upon request. That's standard procedure when handing in a resume. However, if an employer sees a resume that they like and want to know whether or not they should bring that person in for an interview, giving them a list of references up front can make the process go quicker. If you left things on bad terms at your previous Virginia Beach cooling water treatment chemical job, then you might not want to ask them for a reference. It might be a bit unflattering. You want your potential new employer to see you in a good light.

Choosing the right reference can be tough. You shouldn't put down your friends or family members as potential employers might not see them as legitimate references. You want to stick to co-workers or bosses. People that know what type of worker you are. If you're a freelance London architect, references from satisfied clients is a must. You should have as many references for work applications as possible. The more good reviews about you, the better. Good luck with your job interviews!
