Endless days of commuting, sitting at an office computer or placing bite type fittings, home again through the concrete jungle over the asphalt pathways, sometimes the modern trappings of civilization can be incredibly overwhelming. We all need the money and are grateful for it, but there always comes a point where we need to take a break from the routine.

The watchword for these breaks is, the further away it takes us from our daily routine, the better. There is nowhere quite like the vast open ocean for helping a tired worker break out of office mode and kick start the brain into a refreshment cycle. If you live or are taking a trip to a zip in Virginia Beach, a whale watching tour may be just what you need to forget for a while that you are an electronic design consultant feel at one with nature.

There really is nothing more outside the common realm of modern human experience than floating on the surface of the ocean, bird calls in your ears and the smell of salt in your nostrils, waiting to catch a glimpse of some of the largest creatures on the planet. That's just what you get when you board a Zodiac or a larger vessel on the shores of Virginia Beach (usually these include a custom license plate frame and other individualized decorations) and head out to where the whales are known to feed.

And when you see one of these giant mammals surface, you can bet the last thing on your mind will be how your county is handling manure management this year. Everything becomes secondary to the awesome power of nature on display in front of you. For most people, this sight will be limited to a view of the backs of a few whales as they surface while eating, including a great shot of the geyser of water spouting from their blowholes.

However for some lucky watchers, the whales may breach, a sight guaranteed to arrest to transfix even the most severe case of ADHD, Toronto or anywhere else. Breaching, of course, is when the whale jumps fully out of the water, head first, and sinks back with a resounding crash.

Humpback whales, the second largest organism on the planet after the blues, are the most commonly sighted whales off the coast of Virginia beach during the summer months and the ones most likely to engage in breaching. However, you can also see right and fin whales during winter as well as other marine life like seals, sea birds, and dolphins. There really is no better way to leave your cares behind for a while and glory in the pure offerings of nature.
